Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing some beautiful fall family portraits at Trilith. And it was extra special since I was photographing my brother’s family! Trilith is a great backdrop for portraits with its beautiful homes, shops as well as various parks and green spaces. This charming park provided the perfect natural backdrop with its lush greenery, stone pathways, and open spaces, allowing us to create both posed and candid shots that reflected the love and connection within their growing family.

This heirloom family portrait session lasted a sweet 45 minutes, which is ideal for family portraits, especially when young children are involved. It provided just enough time for everyone to get comfortable in front of the camera, while keeping the littles happy and engaged. I loved seeing sharing sweet moments of laughter, playfulness, and even a few sibling hugs. I also loved getting to grab a few solo shots of the kiddos and my gorgeous and glowing sister-in-law.

Heirloom family portraits like these are more than just images – they’re a legacy. The candid connections and raw emotions captured in this session, from the siblings’ giggles to the expecting parents’ warm embrace, hold a special place in a family’s history. Whether it’s for future generations or simply to hang on the wall, these images reflect relationships, personalities, and love that grows year after year. It was an absolute joy getting to capture all of this for them! I recently had my own family photos taken and I was in tears after looking through our images and just couldn’t believe how big my kids have grown. I cannot emphasize how important it is to document your family- time is truly a thief.

The variety we captured in this short amount of time speaks to the magic of quick sessions: the perfect blend of posed and candid moments, with plenty of room for kids to just be themselves. It’s also a gentle reminder of how important it is to pause and capture the fleeting moments of family life – especially when little ones change so quickly. We also had a little fun towards the end of the session where I was able to capture some fun cameo inspired double exposures with each of the kiddos and some pretty florals. I absolutely love how these turned out! (See if you can spy them sprinkled throughout their images ;))

For families and moms, especially those balancing life with small children, these quick, joyful sessions are not only efficient but also deeply meaningful. They serve as a reminder that, in the chaos of daily life, taking the time to preserve these memories is truly priceless. From one mother to another- I promise you won’t regret investing in these memories. I’m so glad I was able to capture some sweet memories during this fall family session at Trilith. It was a joy!

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT Sarah

At home in the garden. Ever-focused on finding beauty in simplicity and the art of creating.

After photographing my first wedding nearly a decade ago, I was immediately drawn into the magic of creating a visual narrative that artfully expressed a couple's love story. Motherhood deepened my passion and inspired me to create images that were even more timeless and meaningful- photos that truly captured the moment in a real and organic way.

I believe in an approach that is people-centered, simple, and rooted in kindness: guiding my couples with unhurried, tailored prompts that result in beautiful images that tell your story how you want to remember it.

When my camera is not in hand, you can find me at home with my four children, dreaming up my next home improvement project, or planning out my next addition to our garden.
