One thing I love about getting to photograph families is seeing my repeat clients and their sweet families grow. I met Emily and Luke a few years ago (back when they just had one sweet baby!) and was honored to photograph her family for the holidays. Since then, their family has grown by two more and this last week I was overjoyed to do a newborn lifestyle session for their newest addition- Baby Eli!

We decided to do an in-home newborn lifestyle session the week that Eli was born and it was just the dreamiest. (Just a little planning tip: It’s best to schedule your newborn session within the first two weeks after your little one arrives. During this time they tend to be more sleepy, less wiggly, and easier to pose!). Emily looked absolutely beautiful in her white wrap dress and Luke and the kiddos perfectly coordinated in their white and light colored outfits. This just gave a beautifully light and joyful feel to their images. And if I only had two words to describe this family those would be it- light and joy. Little Harper and JP were so sweet with their new baby brother- just so eager to hold and love on him! The best! All these precious moments as well as just the beautiful window light that flooded their home just made this newborn lifestyle session a dream.

Lifestyle family sessions are so fun for me to photograph- I love the movement, each sweet interaction, and capturing all the different personalities. I love getting to pose and structure an image but often times I prefer set up a pose or prompt and then let it take on a life of it’s own. Setting up and then letting everyone loose! That is when the magic happens and you get those natural, candid, tender moments. The ones that just simply can’t be posed. It was such a joy to catch up with Emily and her sweet family, stretch that newborn photography muscle again and photograph these brand new tiny feet. Enjoy these sweet photos and I’m not responsible for the baby fever that will inevitably ensue ;).

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT Sarah

At home in the garden. Ever-focused on finding beauty in simplicity and the art of creating.

After photographing my first wedding nearly a decade ago, I was immediately drawn into the magic of creating a visual narrative that artfully expressed a couple's love story. Motherhood deepened my passion and inspired me to create images that were even more timeless and meaningful- photos that truly captured the moment in a real and organic way.

I believe in an approach that is people-centered, simple, and rooted in kindness: guiding my couples with unhurried, tailored prompts that result in beautiful images that tell your story how you want to remember it.

When my camera is not in hand, you can find me at home with my four children, dreaming up my next home improvement project, or planning out my next addition to our garden.
