You’ve probably heard the phrase “it’s the little things,” and when it comes to wedding photography, that couldn’t be more true. Every detail you’ve thoughtfully chosen—your shoes, heirloom jewelry, a spritz of your favorite perfume—tells a piece of your story. That’s why I always begin a wedding day by photographing the bridal details. It sets the tone for the entire gallery and helps me capture the unique style and aesthetic you’ve so carefully curated.

Bridal details matter because they’re often the most sentimental, personal touches woven into your day. From your grandmother’s handkerchief to the invitation suite you spent hours choosing, these are the small but meaningful elements that deserve to be preserved just as beautifully as the big moments.

A Checklist of Bridal Details to Have Ready

To make the most of your detail photos, here’s a list of items I recommend having ready for your photographer:

  • Wedding dress (on a beautiful hanger if possible)
  • All three rings (engagement ring + both wedding bands)
  • Full invitation suite (with envelope and stamps)
  • Shoes
  • Veil or hair accessories
  • Jewelry
  • Perfume
  • Any heirloom items (like a locket, handkerchief, or ribbon)
  • “Something old, new, borrowed, and blue”

Pro Tips for Perfect Detail Photos

1. Gather everything in one box or bag.
This saves time and allows your photographer to get started right away without disrupting hair and makeup prep.

2. Ask your florist for extra blooms.
Having a few floral cuttings from your bouquet or centerpiece helps tie the detail shots into the rest of your wedding design and creates a cohesive look throughout your gallery.

3. Clean your rings and jewelry.
Make sure your engagement ring and bands are sparkling! If you don’t have time to visit the jeweler, keep a couple of jewelry wipes on hand for a quick shine.

Don’t Forget the Groom’s Details

The groom deserves some love too! Here’s a quick checklist for him:

  • Shoes
  • Tie or bowtie
  • Cufflinks
  • Watch
  • Cologne
  • Vow book or personal note (if applicable)

These items, styled thoughtfully, add depth and narrative to your gallery and ensure both sides of your story are beautifully told.

Your details are a reflection of your love story. They’re the textures, tones, and memories that pull everything together. So as you prep for your wedding day, take a little time to gather the meaningful pieces—you’ll be so glad you did when you see them captured forever.

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT Sarah

At home in the garden. Ever-focused on finding beauty in simplicity and the art of creating.

I'm Sarah and I'm beyond blessed to photograph amazing people on some of the most important days of their lives. After photographing my first wedding nearly a decade ago, I was immediately drawn into the magic of creating a visual narrative that artfully expressed a couple's love story. Motherhood deepened my passion and inspired me to create images that were even more timeless and meaningful- photos that truly captured those moments and emotions in a real and organic way.

My goal is to photograph your wedding as if it were my own- blending beautiful portraiture with candid emotional imagery. I believe in an approach that is people-centered, simple, and rooted in kindness: I will guide you when needed and also step back to let those beautiful candid moments unfold naturally, ensuring your memories are not only preserved but also felt.

When my camera is not in hand, you can find me at home with my four children, dreaming up my next home improvement project in our 120 year old home, or planning out the next addition to our garden.
