When it comes to planning your wedding, it’s easy to feel the pressure to create something grand — hundreds of guests, a packed timeline, and a celebration that fills every moment. But for many couples, there’s a quiet tug toward something more personal. A micro wedding offers just that — a celebration centered on meaning, connection, and presence.

As a wedding photographer who has captured her fair share of micro weddings (helllooooo 2020 & 2021), I’ve seen firsthand how smaller celebrations allow space for what matters most. With fewer moving parts, you’re able to slow down, breathe, and actually experience the day you’ve dreamed of.

More Presence, Less Pressure

One of the most beautiful things about micro weddings is how peaceful the day feels. There’s no rush from one moment to the next or long lists of group photos to complete. Instead, there’s time to soak in the quiet before the ceremony, share unhurried laughter with your closest friends, and exchange vows that feel deeply personal. So of the most emotional imagery I’ve ever photographed have been from micro weddings.

Smaller guest lists create space for more meaningful connections — you can look around and truly see every face that means something to you. These are the moments that linger long after the day ends.

Intimacy That Translates Into Timeless Imagery

From a photographer’s perspective, micro weddings are an absolute dream. The slower pace, the smaller details, and the quiet interactions all allow for photography that feels natural and emotive. There’s no rush or pressure to adhere to a strict timeline so I have so much more time to be more intentional, creative, and artistic in the way I capture the couple and the flow of the day. Some of my proudest work has come from intimate weddings where I had more freedom in the timeline to create and capture images that are truly unique.

When I photograph these intimate celebrations, I focus on documenting the atmosphere — the way the light filters through the room, the emotion on your face during the vows, and the quiet joy that fills the air. The result is a gallery that feels cinematic and deeply personal, one that truly tells your story.

Quality Over Quantity

A micro wedding doesn’t mean you’re giving up elegance or beauty — in many ways, it allows for more of both. With a smaller guest count, couples often find they can invest in thoughtful details: exquisite florals, a fine art tablescape, or a private dinner with candlelight and conversation.

It’s a chance to create an experience that feels uniquely yours — one that reflects your relationship, your style, and the legacy you want to begin together.

A Celebration That Feels Like You

Whether your heart is set on a European-inspired garden, a quiet family estate, or a simple ceremony under the trees, a micro wedding gives you the freedom to design your day in a way that feels intentional and true.

It’s less about tradition and more about the quiet, sacred beauty of two people committing their lives to one another — surrounded by love, laughter, and the presence of those who matter most.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve been feeling the pull toward something smaller, quieter, and more meaningful, a micro wedding might be exactly what you’re dreaming of. These intimate celebrations have a way of revealing what weddings are really about — the people, the promises, and the joy that fills the space between.

And as your photographer, my goal is to preserve every bit of that — the beauty, the emotion, and the simplicity — in a way that feels like your story.

BEHIND THE LENS with alabama wedding photographer

Meet Sarah

At home in the garden. Ever-focused on finding beauty in simplicity and the art of creating.

I’m Sarah — a photographer and storyteller drawn to the quiet, meaningful moments that make up a life. Based in Auburn, Alabama, I photograph weddings and families across the Southeast — from Atlanta and Savannah to the coastlines of 30A and beyond.

In a world that celebrates what’s curated, I believe in celebrating what’s real. Your wedding day isn’t a production; it’s a promise — a gathering of love, a day filled with fleeting, unrepeatable moments. I’m drawn to the in-between: the laughter, the glances, the hands reaching for one another. Because beauty isn’t found in what’s staged — it’s found in what’s felt.

My approach is calm, intentional, and rooted in trust. I want you to be fully present — to breathe, to feel, to live in the joy of it — knowing I’ll preserve every honest, graceful detail.

Your story deserves to be told artfully, but never artificially. Long after the flowers fade and the music quiets, these photographs become part of your legacy — a reflection of who you are and the love that began it all.

I’m a wife, mother of four, and believer in the quiet beauty of everyday life. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me baking in our 120-year-old Alabama home or tending to our garden — simple rhythms that remind me to slow down and notice what’s worth remembering. That same rhythm shapes how I photograph love: with stillness, gratitude, and honesty.
