This fall, I had the pleasure of photographing the Stiver family at one of my favorite portrait locations in Auburn—the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. Tucked away just off campus, this beautiful museum offers the perfect blend of architecture, gardens, and open space. We met during golden hour, when the light is warm and dreamy, casting the perfect glow for a family photo session.
Despite an Auburn football game happening nearby, the museum grounds were surprisingly quiet, giving us the space to explore and play without distractions. The kids, Ellie and Jay, brought such great energy—running, laughing, and fully embracing every prompt and pose I suggested. Sessions like these remind me why I love photographing families: it’s not just about posed portraits, but about capturing connection, joy, and personality.
The Jule Collins Smith Museum is one of the most versatile locations for portraits in Auburn. The clean architecture, thoughtfully maintained green spaces, and seasonal gardens create a timeless backdrop year-round. Whether you’re planning a holiday card or just want to update your family photos, this spot never disappoints.
As a photographer who works often with young children, I know that high-energy little ones can make for the most memorable moments. Ellie and Jay kept me on my toes in the best way, and their playful spirits shone through in every image.
