There is something about stepping into a family’s home just days after a baby arrives that never gets old. The worn-in furniture, the way the light hits a particular window, the quiet enormity of this new life — it’s all still so tender and fresh. When Jared and Sarah welcomed me into their stunning 1940s Midtown home to photograph their daughter Lana, I knew from the moment I walked in that this was going to be a session worth remembering. As a newborn photographer in Atlanta, sessions like this one are exactly why I do what I do.
A Home Full of History and Heart
Midtown Atlanta has no shortage of beautiful architecture, but Jared and Sarah’s home is something special. Built in the early 1940s, it has that effortless old-soul character — high ceilings, original trim work, a gorgeous fireplace, and light that feels like it was made to be photographed. We moved through the home’s most intimate spaces, letting Lana and her parents settle into each moment naturally.
Lana was, in a word, perfect. She slept, she curled, she did all the things a brand-new baby does best, and she made my job look easy. The whole session had a calm, unhurried rhythm to it — the kind that only happens when a family is truly at ease.
The Tiniest Details
One of my favorite parts of any newborn session is slowing down for the details — the way a baby’s fingers fold against a parent’s hand, the soft weight of a swaddle, those impossibly small feet. With Lana, there was no shortage of perfect little moments to capture. We made sure to document everything: the cozy held shots, the wide-frame images that show just how much life exists in that home, and all the quiet in-between moments that would otherwise disappear.
As a newborn photographer in Atlanta, I always remind families that these images are the ones they’ll reach for in ten, twenty years — so we don’t rush.
