Auburn University’s campus in the early morning light that makes it one of my favorite places for a an engagement session — and Nate and Haleigh’s Saturday morning Samford Hall engagement session was no exception. With those iconic clock towers as a backdrop and the summer humidity holding off just enough, we had the perfect window to capture some fun engagement portraits for them.
Meeting Nate & Haleigh
Like a lot of couples, Nate and Haleigh told me upfront they’d never done a professional photo session together and worried it might feel stiff or awkward. Within the first few minutes on the lawn, that worry disappeared entirely. Guys are often the harder sell in these sessions if I’m being honest, but Nate was so positive, up for anything, genuinely present and unbothered by the camera. (Guys take note!) Haleigh showed up bare-faced and radiant, laughing easily, needing zero direction to look like herself. It’s the kind of natural chemistry that makes my job feel more like documenting than directing.

Soft, diffused morning light meant no harsh shadows on faces, and we wrapped before the campus got crowded or uncomfortably warm. For couples booking summer sessions in Auburn, I always recommend either an early or evening call time — not just for comfort, but for the quality of light you get in that first hour or two after sunrise and right before sunset. And it never hurts to bring some bottled water or a mini fan- just in case.
